Learning Outcomes

read and understand a short story about animals and a forest.
recognise and use past simple verbs to talk about past events.
use 'will' to make promises and talk about future actions.
identify the layers of a rainforest: forest floor, understory, and canopy.
explain why trees are important homes for many living things.

Grammar Focus

Past Simple: subject + verb-ed (regular) / irregular verbs

Use the past simple to talk about actions that happened and finished in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, but many common verbs are irregular (e.g., see → saw, swim → swam).

“ Once upon a time, a happy dolphin named Dara lived in a big blue ocean.

Tip: Remember that irregular verbs do not take -ed; learn them as special words.

Future Simple: will + base verb

Use 'will' + the base form of the verb to talk about the future, make promises, or say what you are going to do.

“ "I will help you find your home."

Tip: After 'will', always use the base verb without 'to' or -s.

Prepositions of place: in, on, at, near

Prepositions of place show where something is. Use 'in' for inside, 'on' for surfaces, 'at' for specific points, and 'near' for close to.

“ Inside the cave, she saw a small monkey named Milo.

Tip: Picture the position in your mind to choose the right preposition.
