Paragraphs 1–2 of 4

Once upon a time, a curious monkey named Kiri lived in a big rainforest. Kiri loved to climb and explore. One morning, she lost her favorite red mango. She looked on the forest floor but did not find it. She decided to search in the trees.

Kiri climbed up to the first layer of the forest. This layer is called the understory. It has small trees and many vines. Kiri saw a green snake sleeping on a branch. She asked, "Did you see my red mango?" The snake said, "No, but I use this layer for shelter." Kiri kept climbing.
