One day, the lab announced a flying race. Oliver wanted to win, but his heart beat fast. He remembered his fear of the dark tunnels. His friend, a mouse, said, "You can do it, Oliver!"

Grammar Focus

Past Simple: subject + verb-ed (regular) or irregular past form

Use the past simple to talk about completed actions in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, while irregular verbs have special forms.

Tip: Remember that irregular verbs like 'learn' can be regular ('learned') or irregular ('learnt'), but both are correct in the past simple.

Past Simple of 'be': was/were

Tip: For negatives, add 'not': 'was not' or 'were not' (often shortened to 'wasn't' or 'weren't').

Prepositions of place: in, at, through

Prepositions like 'in', 'at', and 'through' show where something happens or the direction of movement.

Tip: Use 'through' for movement inside something, 'at' for a specific point, and 'in' for being inside a place.
