The Cosmic Neighbor: A Pirate's Comedy of Errors

Captain Barnacle, self-proclaimed terror of the cosmic seas, was having a thoroughly un-terrifying Tuesday. His ship, the rusty bucket lovingly named the "Saucy Mermaid," drifted lazily past a cluster of worthless asteroids. As he complained to his parrot, a flickering message materialized on the screen, its source obscured by an enigmatic static. The message simply read: "Help us, neighbor." Barnacle scoffed, for he had no neighbors—or so he believed.

Curiosity, a dangerous beast, nudged Barnacle to trace the signal. It led him to a colossal ring of metal that resembled a floating crown, humming with an eerie purple energy. This, he recalled with a shudder, was the infamous "Kingdom of Gerbil," a planet-sized spaceship that had vanished a century ago. Legend held that it was guarded by a phantom crew, and no pirate who boarded it ever returned. Yet the signal repeated, desperate and rhythmic, like a heart begging for rescue.
