The Howling Liar of the Shadow Jungle

High Intermediate (B1 High) Academic CEFR B1 337 words 5 min read

Once upon a time, in a jungle where the moonlight barely touched the ground, there lived a clever dog named Kipo. He had never seen a ghost, but he often pretended to be brave by telling stories about them. If the animals had known the truth, they might have trusted him more, but they were impressed by his tales. However, Kipo's favorite lie was about his battle with the Shadow Serpent.

One evening, Kipo boasted that he had defeated the serpent that lived in the black river. The monkeys and parrots gathered around, their eyes wide with fear and wonder. 'I bit its neck, and it vanished into smoke!' he claimed, although he had only seen its scales from a distance. That night, the jungle grew cold, and an eerie silence fell upon the leaves.
