The Princess and the Honest Confection: A Candy Kingdom Adventure

Upper Intermediate (B2 Low) Test Preparation CEFR B2 559 words 5 min read

The Candy Kingdom was governed by Princess Lolli, whose opulent palace was constructed entirely from butterscotch and gumdrops. It was widely acknowledged by the citizenry that the annual Grand Candy Competition was the most anticipated event of the season. Unfortunately, Princess Lolli, despite her regal status, possessed a remarkably clumsy palate and an overactive imagination. Her latest culinary experiment, a chocolate bar infused with pickles and marshmallow, had produced a distinctly questionable aroma.

The Royal Taster, a weasel named Sir Snout, insisted that the confection was revolutionary. He declared with theatrical enthusiasm that the combination of sour and sweet was a stroke of genius, while discreetly spitting his sample into a potted plant. The competition's submission deadline was imminent, and the official entry form required a sworn statement of the candy's quality. This requirement, which had been implemented to deter fraud in previous years, placed Princess Lolli in a predicament. She knew that the candy was an abomination, yet the temptation to win the Golden Lollipop trophy was exceedingly strong.
