Paragraphs 1–2 of 4

Nia is a young cartographer. She draws maps of the misty river valley. Every morning, she walks to the river and checks her maps. The river is wide and quiet. One day, a big storm comes. The rain falls hard, and the wind blows strong. In the morning, Nia sees that the old bridge is gone. The water washed it away.

Nia is sad because the baker needs to cross the river. The baker lives on the other side. He makes bread for the village. "The baker cannot bring bread today," Nia says. "The river is too big." She looks at the water. It is cold and fast. She thinks, "How can I help?"

“ She draws maps of the misty river valley.
Tip: Remember to add -s for he, she, and it: 'She draws', 'He makes', 'It happens'.

We use the past simple to talk about actions that finished in the past. Regular verbs take -ed, and some verbs are irregular.

“ The water washed it away.
Tip: Learn common irregular verbs like 'go-went', 'see-saw', 'make-made'.
Future Simple: will + verb

We use 'will' to talk about the future or to make a prediction.

“ The baker cannot bring bread today.
Tip: Use 'will' before the main verb: 'I will help', 'She will come'.
