Paragraphs 1–2 of 4

Milo, a curious monkey, lived near an old castle that belonged to a friendly vampire named Vlad. One sunny morning, Milo lost his favorite golden banana charm while playing in the castle's garden. He remembered that he had been near the tall, dark tower, so he decided to search there. Milo felt sad because the charm was a gift from his grandmother.

He entered the castle and saw many rooms, each full of old furniture and dusty books. Milo looked under a big wooden table and behind a heavy curtain, but he could not find the charm. He asked a ghost, who was floating in the hallway, 'Have you seen my golden banana?' The ghost, who was very kind, shook his head and said, 'I have not, but you should check the library upstairs.'

  • recognise and use the past simple to talk about completed actions.
  • use prepositions of place like 'under', 'behind', and 'between' to describe locations.
  • form and answer questions with the present perfect, such as 'Have you seen...?'
  • learn vocabulary related to castles, animals, and everyday objects.

Grammar Focus

Past Simple: subject + verb(-ed) or irregular past form

Use the past simple to talk about completed actions in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, while irregular verbs have special forms.

“ Milo looked under a big wooden table and behind a heavy curtain, but he could not find the charm.
Tip: Learn the past forms of common irregular verbs like 'see-saw', 'find-found', and 'give-gave' to use them correctly.
Prepositions of place: under, behind, between, inside

Prepositions of place show where something is. They help describe locations clearly.

“ He searched between the shelves and even inside a large, empty pot, but the charm was still missing.
Tip: Visualise the scene to choose the right preposition: 'under' means below, 'behind' means at the back of, 'between' means in the middle of two things.
Present Perfect: have/has + past participle

Use the present perfect to talk about experiences or actions that happened at an unspecified time before now. It often answers the question 'Have you...?'

“ Have you seen my golden banana?
Tip: Remember that the past participle of 'see' is 'seen', not 'saw'. Use 'have/has seen' for experiences.
