Liora, a small fairy with shimmering wings, had always been curious about the human body. One day, she discovered a time machine in the heart of the kingdom's ancient library. If she hadn't been so brave, she might have ignored it. However, she stepped inside and set the dial to 'Inside the Heart'. The machine hummed softly and shrank her down to the size of a tiny cell.

When Liora arrived, she found herself floating in a red river. A friendly red blood cell named Ruby greeted her. 'Welcome to the bloodstream!' Ruby said. 'I'm on my way to the lungs to pick up oxygen.' Liora joined Ruby, and together they traveled through a large artery. The artery was like a tunnel, and the heart's pump pushed them forward with a steady beat.

Grammar Focus

Third Conditional: If + past perfect, would have + past participle

We use the third conditional to talk about imaginary situations in the past that did not happen. It often expresses regret or a different outcome.

Tip: Remember to use 'had' + past participle in the if-clause and 'would have' + past participle in the main clause.

Present Perfect: have/has + past participle

We use the present perfect to talk about experiences or actions that happened at an unspecified time before now, or that have a connection to the present.

“ had always been curious about the human body

Tip: Use the present perfect with words like 'always', 'never', 'ever', 'already', and 'yet'.

Modal verb 'might' for possibility

We use 'might' to express a possibility that is less certain than 'may' or 'could'.

“ she might have ignored it

Tip: 'Might' is followed by the base form of the verb. It can also be used with 'have' + past participle to talk about past possibilities.
