Paragraphs 1–2 of 5

In the neon-lit city of Arteria, a small red dragon named Eryth lived inside a glass tower. Every day, he carried oxygen and nutrition to the city's cells, traveling through tunnels called arteries. However, one evening, a dark trap caught him in a narrow alley. The trap was a web of electric wires that blocked his path. Eryth felt scared, but he remembered his duty to keep the city alive.

Suddenly, a gentle voice said, "Don't worry, I will help you." It was a tiny robot named Pulse, who had once been saved by Eryth. Pulse used his tools to cut the wires carefully. "You helped me when I was broken, so now I will help you," Pulse said. Eryth felt a warm glow in his chest. Therefore, he knew that kindness always returns.

Grammar Focus

Present Perfect: subject + have/has + past participle

We use the present perfect to talk about experiences or actions that happened at an unspecified time before now, and which have a result in the present.

“ Eryth learned that regular exercise keeps the heart strong and helps blood flow smoothly.
Tip: Use the present perfect when the exact time is not important or not mentioned.
Conditional Type 1: if + present simple, will + base verb

We use the first conditional to talk about real or possible situations in the future and their results.

“ If it hadn't rained earlier, the park would have been crowded.
Tip: Remember that the if-clause uses present simple, not will.
Past Simple: subject + verb-ed (regular) or irregular past form

We use the past simple to talk about completed actions in the past.

“ Pulse used his tools to cut the wires carefully.
Tip: Learn irregular past forms by heart, as they don't follow the -ed rule.
