In the labyrinthine corridors of the Verdant Bazaar, where the air was thick with the scent of exotic spices and the cacophony of haggling merchants, a young elf named Lirael moved with the lithe grace of a willow in a storm. Her mission was deceptively simple: to locate a fabled artifact known as the Prism of Clarity, which was rumored to reveal the truth behind any deception. Yet the bazaar was a living entity, its stalls a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds that threatened to overwhelm her senses. She clutched a cryptic map, its edges worn and its ink faded, and resolved to rely on her wits and her five senses to navigate this bustling maze.

Lirael's sight was her first tool, her eyes scanning the crowd for the telltale sign of the artifact—a glimmer of iridescent light. She noticed a blind beggar whose empty sockets seemed to follow her, and a merchant whose smile was too wide, too fixed. Her hearing picked up the faintest whisper of a name: "Prism... haunted..." from a hooded figure slipping into a shadowed alley. The contradiction between the vibrant market and the sinister undercurrent prickled her skin, a warning that not all was as it seemed.

Tip: Use past perfect for the earlier event and simple past for the later one to clarify chronology.
Gerund as subject: Verb-ing + main verb

A gerund (verb + -ing) can function as the subject of a sentence, often to express an activity or concept.

“ Honesty is the best policy,
Tip: Ensure the gerund subject agrees with a singular verb, as gerunds are treated as singular nouns.
Passive voice: be + past participle

Used when the focus is on the action or the receiver of the action rather than the doer, common in descriptive or formal writing.

“ the mansion's hauntings were not curses but tests—trials to reveal one's true character.
Tip: Use passive voice sparingly; it is effective when the doer is unknown or unimportant.
