The Owl's Honest Secret
The old mansion on Hillcrest had always been full of secrets, and the owl in the attic was the keeper of them. Although the servants knew about the bird, they avoided its dark corner because strange sounds came from there. When Lady Ashworth's silver locket disappeared, the house grew heavy with suspicion. Everyone whispered about who might have taken it, but no one looked at the owl.
The stable boy, Thomas, was the main suspect because he was last seen near the lady's room. I felt sorry for him, although I had noticed something odd about the owl that morning. It had swooped down from the rafters and carried a shiny object in its beak. I thought it was a piece of glass, but I kept my thought to myself because I did not want to be laughed at.
