The Tutor's Vigil: Patience in the Dark

High Upper Intermediate (B2 High) Test Preparation CEFR B2 474 words 5 min read

When Elias Thorne accepted the tutoring position at Castle Nocturne, he did so with a trembling hand and a racing heart. The castle loomed above the misty valley, its spires clawing at the bruised twilight sky like skeletal fingers. He had been told that the young vampire prince, Alexandru, was a quick learner but prone to vicious outbursts. Every whispered warning from the villagers suggested that his own life would be measured in hours, not months.

On his first evening, Elias was escorted into a cavernous library, where the boy sat with a candle flickering between them. Alexandru did not bare fangs or hiss; instead, he stared with sad, ancient eyes that seemed to carry centuries of loneliness. The tutor realized that his fear was not of a monster, but of the unknown, and that the boy was just as terrified of being abandoned as Elias was of being harmed.
