In the labyrinthine alleyways of a sprawling metropolis, a rabbit named Thunsay discovered a tarnished locket half-buried in a heap of discarded electronics. The locket, though weathered, bore an intricate engraving of a willow tree, and its clasp was still functional. Thunsay, whose innate curiosity often led him into precarious situations, felt an inexplicable compulsion to reunite the jewelry with its rightful owner. He reasoned that such a personal artifact, lost amid the detritus of urban life, must hold profound sentimental value.

Thunsay's initial inquiries among the local fauna yielded little; the pigeons were indifferent, and the stray cats regarded him with suspicion. Undeterred, he resolved to consult the oldest inhabitant of the district, a tortoise named Sok who resided in a neglected community garden. Sok, whose memory stretched back decades, recalled a reclusive elderly woman who once frequented the garden but had mysteriously vanished. The tortoise suggested that the locket might be connected to her abrupt departure, and he provided Thunsay with a cryptic clue: "Seek the mural of the weeping willow."

Grammar Focus

Past Perfect: had + past participle

Used to describe an action that occurred before another past action, establishing a clear sequence of events.

“ She explained that her grandmother had passed away shortly after moving.
Tip: Use the past perfect to clarify which of two past events happened first, especially with time expressions like 'after' or 'before'.
Passive Voice: be + past participle

Used when the focus is on the action or the receiver of the action rather than the doer.

“ The locket, though weathered, bore an intricate engraving of a willow tree, and its clasp was still functional.
Tip: In passive constructions, ensure the auxiliary verb 'be' agrees with the subject in tense and number.
Gerunds as Subjects: Verb + -ing

Gerunds can function as nouns, often as the subject of a sentence.

“ Reading further, Thunsay learned that the woman had been forced to relocate due to gentrification.
Tip: When a gerund is the subject, the verb that follows should be singular.
