Grammar Focus

Past Simple: subject + verb(-ed) or irregular past form

We use the past simple to talk about actions that finished in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, and some verbs are irregular.

“ She walked through the garden and touched the dry leaves.

Tip: Remember that irregular verbs like 'read' become 'read' (pronounced 'red') in the past simple.

Prepositions of place: near, on, through

We use 'near' to mean close to something, 'on' to mean on a surface, and 'through' to mean from one side to the other inside something.

“ She read until the sky turned pink.

Tip: Use 'near' for a place close by, 'on' for a surface, and 'through' for movement inside a space.

Future Simple: will + base verb

We use 'will' to talk about the future, like plans or predictions.

“ I will ask the king for help.

Tip: Use 'will' with the base form of the verb, not 'will to' or 'will + -ing'.
