Mira learned that the city wanted to close the station forever. The mayor said the station cost too much money, and the repairs were too expensive. The wolf, who was very old, had lived there for many years. If the station closed, the wolf would have no home. Mira felt afraid, but she also felt sad for the lonely animal.

Past Simple: subject + verb-ed (regular) or irregular past form

Use the past simple to talk about finished actions in the past. Regular verbs add -ed, but many common verbs are irregular.

Tip: Learn the past form of common irregular verbs like 'hear → heard' and 'stand → stood' by heart.

Relative clauses with 'who' and 'which': noun + who/which + verb

Use 'who' for people and 'which' for things to add extra information about a noun without starting a new sentence.

Tip: Put a comma before 'which' when the clause gives extra, non-essential information.

First conditional: If + present simple, ... will + verb

Use the first conditional to talk about a possible future result. The 'if' part uses the present simple, and the result uses 'will'.

“ If the station closed, the wolf would have no home.

Tip: Do not use 'will' in the 'if' part: say 'If it rains', not 'If it will rain'.
